I’ve been contemplating how to write this blog for a few days. Instinctively I find myself wheeling on eggshells over this topic when I really shouldn’t. As disabled people we’re expected to answer everyone’s questions with a smile, always be polite even when people are being rude and offensive and we’re expected to never show any sort of anger or resentment. If we do, we’re labeled as ungrateful.

What is Chiari Malformation?

September is here and so begins fall, and Chiari Malformation Awareness Month. Now if you don’t know anyone with Chiari chances are you’ve never heard of it. But Chiari isn’t rare, not by a long shot. Chiari affects 1/110 people but it’s most commonly found on autopsies.

Things Abled People Have Said To Disabled People

I grew up disabled in an abled world. I didn’t have many disabled friends and often times the abled people around me didn’t know how to handle me. I think a lot of people think of the hardest cases of disability when they hear the world “disabled”. I’ve personally seen people’s faces drop when they see me for the first time after hearing about my existence.
